Nalgonda: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Saturday urged Congress leaders and workers to remain vigilant during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise had affected the electoral prospects of opposition parties in some states.
Addressing a meeting of Congress Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at his camp office in Khammam, he claimed that parties such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Trinamool Congress had raised concerns over the deletion of their supporters’ names from electoral rolls during revision exercises.
Stating that voter mapping was not being carried out to the expected level, Tummala asked Congress BLAs to coordinate closely with Booth Level Officers and ensure that the names of eligible Congress supporters were not removed from the electoral rolls.
“We must remain alert during the SIR process and strengthen the party ahead of the next elections,” he said.
The minister also urged BLAs to create awareness among youngsters who had attained the age of 18 and encourage them to enrol as voters. He stressed the importance of exercising the right to vote in elections.
