TMZ founder offers bitcoins for Nancy Guthrie’s ransom
Soon after TMZ started receiving emails related to Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping, the founder of the media outlet, Harvey Levin sat down for an interview with CBS producer named Anna Schecter and revealed that he had offered one Bitcoin to the FBI. Harvey proposed the idea to produce a documentary showing the Bitcoin transfer while law enforcement silently monitored the transfer of money. The payment would happen only if the FBI approved it. Harvey Levin was quoted as saying:
“A month ago, I called the FBI and I said, ‘Look, I just have this sense this guy might be real. We’d obviously not do anything without you, but just because we have this sense it’s real, what if we do this?”

The FBI ghosted Harvey Levin and ignored his proposal
Further, during the chat, Harvey Levin explained that the FBI initially showed a lot of interest. It seemed as if they would approve the documentary idea; however, the investigators soon ghosted the founder of TMZ. Harvey tried calling the investigators six times but they didn’t pick it up. Later, they called back and informed to stop everything and did not approve the documentary idea. In Harvey Levin’s words:

Harvey Levin questions the FBI
Towards the end of the interview, Harvey also questioned the FBI and their plan to find Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy. Harvey explained that he is unable to understand the officials. He explained that the officials showed interest but now they feel the ransom emails are nothing but scam. He felt that if the FBI feels the emails are a scam, why are they wasting time in finding the identity of the sender. Sharing his frustration, TMZ founder said:
“If you’re asking me, how do I make sense of all of it? I’m having trouble. On the one hand, if they think this guy is just a jerk trying to scam money, why are they spending all this time…trying to figure out who this guy is? On the other hand, if he’s legit, why didn’t they pay the one Bitcoin he’s asking, which is around $60,000 to lead them to the kidnappers – and possibly Nancy Guthrie?”
