At a recent event, Mirza made an appearance in a breezy, printed chiffon sari. The sheer blue and white sari features foliate prints and abstract designs in black, with mirror work detailing sprinkled across the body. She paired it with a spaghetti-strap blouse, throwing it back to a style from the late ’90s and early aughts. Mirza accessorised the ensemble with antique silver chandelier earrings with mirror work and a diamond nose pin. Makeup artist Avinash Prajapati kept the beauty look understated with kohl-rimmed eyes, blushed cheeks and a nude-brown lip, while hairstylist Vithika Jaiswal styled her hair in a sleek side-parted bun.

Royal patronage turned the chiffon sari into a fashion staple that continues to hold space in Indian wardrobes. Gayatri Devi, the third Maharani consort of Jaipur, was single-handedly responsible for bringing them to the fore with her collection of sheer chiffon saris. At the Met Gala 2026, Gauravi Kumari paid tribute to her grandmother’s legacy by upcycling her chiffon sari into a sari gown in a collaboration with American-Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung, which became a conversation starter on a global stage.

From Vogue‘s fashion desk:

“A chiffon sari is such an easy sari to drape and rethink. Why not rethink the sari in a sarong drape halter dress. To accentuate the shape of the body and silhouette, add a thick belt to cinch the look. Pair with a pair of kohlapuris and sculptural cuffs and you have yourself a fun and easy beachside look,” says Divya Balakrishnan, Vogue India fashion associate.
