The charge comes after two other boys, aged 15 and 16, were charged with murder. Their cases have already been before court and both were remanded in custody.

In the children’s court hearing on Friday, a magistrate was told the 16-year-old accused teen had been charged with committing an indictable offence on bail, after being charged and bailed by police for separate alleged offending on June 27 – four days before the fatal stabbing.

Police say a burnt-out car linked to Darweish’s death was found in Oaklands Junction, just over 10 kilometres from where the teenager died.

Police have also charged a 20-year-old Beveridge man with criminal damage by fire, and a 15-year-old girl with affray and theft of motor vehicle.
