Comedian Ashley Storrie was left in tears after an issue with her family’s phones following the death of her mother, Janey Godley, in 2024.

BBC star Ashley Storrie was left in tears after her phone was cut off following her mum’s death. The comedian and actress, who co-created and starred in comedy series Dinosaur and her show What’s the Story, Ashley Storrie?, shared her story on social media.

She revealed that following the death of her mum, actress Janey Godley, in November 2024, she found herself in a battle with her phone provider. She explained how her late mum had been in control of all the family’s phone accounts prior to her death.

Ashley faced the tough task of changing the records following her passing. In an Instagram video, a tearful Ashley said: “I’m crying because my phone has once again been disconnected by EE, and I’m convinced I’ve lost my number, my mum’s phone.”

She went on: “If you’re new to this, because I haven’t really spoke about it, my mum had a contract with EE and all of our numbers were under that contract; me, my mum and my dad. It was like a plan.

“I’m not sure what kind of plan, that’s been one of the many issues – they say one thing, I say another thing, based off of what was left in the documentation- then that changes. Irrespective, I just had to get the contract ownership name changed to my name, I sent the death certificate, I sent the business details, I sent letters with my address and blah, blah, blah

“They were like, ‘No, that’s not right’, and I was like, ‘Fine, just tell me what you need me to do and I’ll do it’.”

Much to her annoyance, she claimed the company kept asking to speak to her mother despite telling them she is no longer alive. She said: “They kept saying, ‘Can we speak to Janey Godley?’ and I kept saying, ‘She’s dead, here’s a death certificate.’

“And they’re like, ‘Yeah we feel really bad and we’re so sorry but you know this isn’t right’ and I’m like, ‘That’s fine, just tell me how to do it right’.”

After Ashley said continued to battle with them to sort the situation, both over the phone and via email she has now revealed her relief that the situation has been resolved.

She had captioned herfirst emotional post: “Can someone from @ee who isn’t going to ignore me/ hang up the phone/ ask for my dead mum help me? And don’t tell me to phone you cause I have NO PHONE SERVICE”.

She shared an updated message on Instagram, thanking those who had been in touch, explaining: “It’s done. EE is done. I have my phone number. My dad has his phone number.” She added: “The 40 other people who I spoke to who had me sending constant paperwork like it was my administrative job, I will never forgive you.”
