Gemma Atkinson, who met the former Strictly pro when she took part in the series in 2017, has joked that a fan’s comment about Gorka has “ruined” their relationship

Gemma Atkinson has joked that a fan’s comment about Gorka Marquez has “ruined” their relationship. Ex-glamour model Gemma, famed for her role as Lisa Hunter in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, crossed paths with the former Strictly Come Dancing pro when she took part in the BBC series in 2017.

Since then, the couple have welcomed two children, Mia and Thiago, got engaged and launched a podcast together, Lost in Translation, where they recently responded to a message from a listener.

A fan named Lisa wrote in to share an observation about a celebrity lookalike. She said she thought Gorka resembled a certain world-class tennis player, but her husband wasn’t convinced.

Gemma said on the episode: “This is interesting, Gorks. She says, ‘Hi, Gemma and Gorka. I was watching and chuckling along to the pod this morning. You mentioned Gorka’s doppelganger.

“I said to my husband a few weeks ago when Novak Djokovic was on the telly that I think he looks quite a bit like Gorka. He says no, but I still think I’m right. Look at this picture of Djokovic in the green and look at Gorka today’.”

Gorka responded that he looked “nothing like him”. Gemma noted that she didn’t want him to look like the Serbian tennis star, explaining that he’s an “incredible athlete” but she doesn’t find him “attractive”.

Initially, Gemma didn’t think her partner looked like Djokovic, but his “side profile” revealed a “little bit” of a likeness. “Oh, Lisa. You’ve ruined it for me,” she joked.

Gorka said: “You’re just ruining my relationship with her. Now she’s not gonna be close to me.”

It comes after the Spanish dancer announced earlier this year that he’d be leaving Strictly after 10 years, having joined in 2016. In April, he said it was time for him to “hang up my dance shoes”.

Gorka said in a statement: “I’ve decided that now is the time to hang up my dance shoes and say goodbye to Strictly Come Dancing.”

He added: “Being part of the show has been so much more than just a professional opportunity — over the past 10 years, it allowed me to build a career from my passion, find love, start a family, and make lifelong friends. For that, I will forever be thankful.”

Last month, Gorka and Gemma enjoyed a trip to his native country, but the child-free holiday was impacted by an illness. Gemma said she “got ill”, something that happens “whenever I go away”.

She said: “It was literally my own fault. There’s nothing I can say other than I was a greedy, indulgent pig.”

Gorka said: That’s why there’s no child number three. I think she does it on purpose… I was getting ready – shave that bush and everything for the night.”

Gemma, however, spent the night “projectile vomiting.”
