Hyderabad:Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, BRS and I.N.D.I.A. bloc parties, accusing them of exploiting the NEET controversy to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and push their own political agenda.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Sanjay asked what connection NEET had with Azad Kashmir, Article 370, Sanatana Dharma, Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal or Sri Lanka. He said no genuine student aspiring to become a doctor would throw stones, carry sticks or raise anti‑national slogans during protests.
He alleged that 118 policemen were seriously injured in the Delhi agitation and that journalists, including women reporters, were attacked. “What kind of protest is this? Why were slogans raised against the country?” he asked, adding that police were forced to lathicharge only because of the violence.
Sanjay claimed the INDIA bloc was not interested in resolving the NEET issue, but in dethroning Modi and projecting Rahul Gandhi as the next prime minister. He said the demand for the resignation of the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Education Minister was part of a larger political script.
The BJP leader also hit back at critics over past exam leak controversies, citing multiple instances under previous governments, including the UPA era, Rajasthan under Ashok Gehlot, Punjab, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Kerala. He said BRS leaders had no moral right to speak on paper leaks, pointing to alleged irregularities during their rule, including Group‑I paper leaks and the intermediate results controversy that led to student suicides.
Turning the attack on the Congress government, he said it had failed to act on fee reimbursement dues and accused it of hurting the future of more than 20 lakh students. Sanjay also said the Centre had already taken reforms to curb exam leaks and would continue to do so in the interest of students, adding that they were ready to discuss the NEET exam issue on the floor of Parliament.
