Real Madrid have joined the race to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande and are in talks with the Bundesliga club over a potential deal for the highly rated 19-year-old.
Paris Saint-Germain remain interested in the Ivory Coast international, who has made the European champions his preferred destination, but the French club have yet to submit an offer capable of persuading Leipzig to sell this summer.
Madrid’s interest has significantly altered the situation, creating fresh competition for Diomande’s signature.
The Spanish giants have been monitoring options on the right wing in case Brahim Diaz departs during the current transfer window.
While the Morocco international wants to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club are pressing ahead with efforts to sign Diomande.
Liverpool also explored a move earlier this summer with a package worth close to £87m, but Leipzig valued the winger nearer to £113m and have also been attempting to extend his current contract, which runs until 2030.
Leipzig chief makes stance clear
Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer recently underlined the club’s stance.
“Our clear intention is that Yan Diomande will play for RB Leipzig next year,” he said.
Madrid have already enjoyed a busy transfer window following Jose Mourinho’s return as head coach, bringing in Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella.
The club are also working on a move for Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Diomande impressed at this summer’s World Cup, featuring in all four of Ivory Coast’s matches as they reached the last 32 before being eliminated by Norway.
The teenager also enjoyed an outstanding domestic campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances as Leipzig finished third and secured Champions League
