Sharing a picture with Dhanush on the actor’s 43rd birthday, Tamizharasan penned a heartfelt note celebrating the star while dropping an important production update.

“I hope, I wish, and I promise to work towards directing a mass blockbuster for you,” he wrote, hinting that D56 will be mounted as a full-fledged commercial entertainer. The filmmaker also revealed that shooting is scheduled to begin after the Tamil month of Aadi, placing the start of production towards the end of August.

The announcement marks the first significant update on the project in months. Since it was announced, the film has remained shrouded in secrecy, with the makers choosing not to reveal details about the storyline, cast or technical crew.

Tamizharasan had begun location scouting for the film in March, signalling that pre-production was progressing steadily. Around the same time, Uriyadi and Election actor Vijay Kumar hinted at his involvement in the project, fuelling speculation about the cast. Reports have also linked Kannada actor Rukmini Vasanth to an important role, although the makers are yet to officially confirm her casting.

A packed lineup awaits Dhanush

Even as D56 gears up for production, Dhanush continues to juggle one of the busiest schedules in Tamil cinema. The actor was last seen in Vignesh Raja’s Kara and is currently filming Rajkumar Periasamy’s Om: Chapter 1 – Udhiram (The Blood Wood), one of the year’s most anticipated releases.

The film is presently in its final shooting schedule in Malaysia and is slated to hit theatres on October 16.Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Om: Chapter 1 boasts an ensemble cast featuring Mammootty, Naseeruddin Shah, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Indrans, among others. The ambitious action drama has generated considerable buzz ever since its announcement, with fans eager to see Dhanush in a larger-than-life role.

Beyond D56, the actor’s slate continues to expand. Dhanush is set to reunite with Mari Selvaraj after the critically acclaimed Karnan, with Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman onboard to score the music. The project is expected to mark another socially rooted drama from the celebrated filmmaker-actor duo.

Adding to the excitement, Dhanush will also collaborate once again with filmmaker Vetri Maaran for Thamizh Murugan. The upcoming film will be based on a script penned by noted writer Arivumathi, marking another reunion between two of Tamil cinema’s most acclaimed creative voices.

With multiple films spanning commercial entertainers and content-driven dramas, Dhanush continues to strike a balance between mainstream stardom and ambitious storytelling. While fans still have to wait a little longer before D56 officially goes on floors, Tamizharasan Pachamuthu’s latest update has offered the clearest indication yet that the project is finally ready to move into production.

As anticipation builds, all eyes are now on the end of August, when one of Dhanush’s most intriguing upcoming collaborations is expected to begin its journey from script to screen.
