Man fined as police allege cause of car smashing into side of bus

A 66-year-old Durack man has been fined for allegedly causing a car to plough through the air and into a bus in the city’s south.

Police allege that about 6.30pm, a SsangYong attempted to merge from a centre lane and turn off near the intersection of Beaudesert Road and Granard Road in Rocklea.

A Toyota Yaris driven by a 45-year-old Pallara woman, travelling in the outer lane, was forced to swerve around the SsangYong, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle which became airborne and crashed into the bus.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene a short time later.

The Yaris driver was taken to hospital and treated for shock.

The bus driver, a 66-year-old Sunnybank Hills man, was not injured and no passengers were on the bus, which was not on a route at the time of the incident. No other injuries were reported.

Following investigations, police issued the SsangYong driver with a traffic infringement notice for driving without due care and attention.

It carries a $690 fine and loss of three demerit points.
