Hyderabad: Twelve gates of Priyadharshini Jurala Project (PJP) were opened as it is receiving 89,640 cusecs of inflows from the upstream areas.
The Irrigation department is releasing 89487 cusecs of water downstream by opening 12 gates. The PJP is a multipurpose project across River Krishna, near Revulapally village. The construction work was taken up during 1981 at an estimated cost of Rs.76.40 crores for providing irrigation facilities to drought affected areas of Mahbubnagar district.
The project is located near Revulapally village in the district, which is about 18 km downstream of Telangana- Karnataka border. The project is intended to irrigate an ayacut of 102200 acres under right main canal (Nalla Somanadri Canal) and left main canal (NTR Canal) in drought prone Mandals of Atmakur, Kothakota, Pebbair, Weepangndla, and Kollapur (under LMC) and Gadwal, Dharur, Itikyal and Manopad (under RMC) of Mahbubnagar.
A provision 0.2TMC is also provided for drinking water supply to the villages enroute in the command area of above mandals. 17.84TMC of Krishna water is allocated to this project.
