Ben Affleck wins $1million prize on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

Movie star Ben Affleck appeared on the Celebrity version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire last night and came away with the top prize of $1million (£750,000).

The Celebrity edition of the show sees A-listers team up with quizmasters to try and win huge sums for charity. On Wednesday night, Ben, 53, joined forces with Jamie Ding, a former Jeopardy! champion to win money for Ben’s Eastern Congo Initiative which he co-founded in 2010.

The duo were thrilled to bag the jackpot after answering the final question: “In an annual Thanksgiving tradition, all but which of these have been the names of turkeys pardoned by a U.S. president?”

The multiple choice answers were: “Peanut Butter & Jelly, Tater & Tot, Mac & Cheese, and Spaghetti & Meatball.”

A stumped Ben and Jamie asked host, Jimmy Kimmel for his advice using up their Ask-The-Host lifeline. Jimmy suggested the answer could be D, Spaghetti & Meatball.

“Actually, you’re very good with cooking and food, current events, too. Actually, you might know this,” said Ben

“I could see me adding a big bowl in Donald Trump’s hands and him slurping up the spaghetti and meatballs” Jimmy then joked, before adding, “That one sounds like it wasn’t the one to me.”

The duo also decided to call Jamie’s pal Stephen Morrison who is also a quizzer, Jamie joked: “Jimmy, you might like this friend of mine. I mean, Harvard-educated, father, we’re two years apart. But we’ve been through a lot of trials and tribulations together. Just like Ben and Matt.”

Jimmy then referenced his years long on-going joke feud with Matt Damon saying: “Are you looking for trouble?”

Unfortunately Morrison was unable to guess the correct answer so Jamie and Ben were left to their own devices to make the final decision.

They decided to lock in D, Spaghetti & Meatball, as the correct answer and were delighted to learn that they had managed to win the $1million prize.

In 2025, Matt Damon won the same award alongside Ken Jennings. Several other celebrities have won the $1million prize including The US Office stars Oscar Nuñez and Kate Flannery, comedy actor Ike Barinholtz and his dad Alan Barinholtz, and Chef David Chang.

The money won on Wednesday night will go to Affleck’s Eastern Congo Initiative which he co-founded with Whitney Williams. The non-profit organization helps “support locally led organizations to expand access to essential services, strengthen economic opportunities, and promote justice.
