Tanisha Gorey is a firm favourite on Coronation Street playing Asha Alahan – but what do we know about her life?
The actress made her debut on the soap back in 2009 as Asha, the daughter of Sunita (Shobna Gulati) and Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin). And it’s fair to say she’s been involved in several moments ever since.
Especially recently, as this week she headed out on a first date with Sienna (Charlotte Tyree), but it’s clear Sienna is hiding something from Asha. Away from the soap though, Tanisha lives a much less dramatic life than her Weatherfield alter-ego’s…
Tanisha ‘never wanted to be an actress’
Tanisha was born on the 9th of June 2002 in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Her parents run a pub in Oldham and she had never taken an acting class before she first appeared on the ITV soap aged six.
She previously explained to The Saddleworth Independent that she was a child model at the time of casting – and fit the criteria. She said: “I was asked to go for an audition and here I am still there 12 years later.
“It was never an ambition to be an actress but, after so long, I am comfortable in the role and happy to stay as long as they want me.
Tanisha’s romance with rarely-seen beau
Tanisha first went public with her relationship with partner Lucas on her 18th birthday in 2020. Lucas gushed that Tanisha was “the best girlfriend anyone could ask for” while Tanisha returned the favour and said her boyfriend was “the best thing I could’ve ever wished for”.
The sweet couple made their red carpet debut together in 2021 and Tanisha revealed that Lucas was a great support to her when she was recovering from the stunts she had to take part in during Asha, Aadi and dad Dev’s devastating car crash.
“Before we started filming I was saying to my boyfriend I’m really scared – really overplaying it, like I’m going to be wet, I’m going to be cold – really, really being dramatic to make him feel sorry for me,” she said in 2021.
Tanisha added: “And then when I came home I underestimated how dramatic I was being, because wow it was something you cannot imagine, it was unreal. Four o’clock in the morning, absolutely drenched, freezing cold. It’s definitely something I’ll remember.”

The two were then flooded with support when they revealed they had bought their first home together back in 2022. The soap star wrote: “I can’t quite believe we’ve bought our first home!!! Cue the typical pic hehe.”
The announcement garnered a flood of congratulations from Tanisha’s industry peers. Former Corrie star Alexandra Mardell expressed her excitement, commenting: “Congrats woooooo,” while Kel Allen chimed in with: “Yayyyyy home owners! A huge congratulations to you both.”
While the pair have chosen to keep much of their home private, Tanisha has shared a few pics from their kitchen which is bright and airy. The white cabinets are covered in a grey marble-style countertop and white subway tiles serve as the backsplash behind the induction hob.
Tanisha and Lucas’ engagement
Fast forward to earlier this year and Tanisha revealed the exciting news that she and Lucas got engaged. Tanisha, who was left emotional after Lucas popped the question during their romantic holiday, shared a picture of her diamond ring on social media.
Showing off her diamond sparkler, the 24-year-old star told fans that she was “still crying”, after Lucas surprised her with the proposal. And it looks as though Lucas had everything prepared, as Tanisha also showed off a pink and white cake with a message on it that read “just engaged.”
Giving fans more insight into her special moment, she showed that Lucas had placed red and silver balloons in their hotel room, with one spelling out “I love you.” The ITV star captioned the post saying: “Brb still crying,” which was accompanied by a tear, ring and heart emoji.
