According to reports in a Spanish newspaper, US authorities received information about alleged plans to attack Messi and other players. One social media post reportedly threatened to enter a stadium in Atlanta with four bombs strapped to the person’s body and target Messi. The post was later deleted, and security officials reportedly investigated the threat.
Another alleged threat involved a caller contacting Dallas Airport and claiming that he and two others would enter a stadium with homemade bombs and an AR-15 rifle. Police reportedly investigated the call and increased security measures.
The dossier reportedly said that players as well as police officers were among the potential targets. Cristiano Ronaldo was also reportedly in the list.
