CM Vijay's Confession About Sangeetha Goes Viral Amid Divorce Plea Withdrawal, 'My Father Liked Her'

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C Joseph Vijay and his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, withdrew their divorce plea after she withdrew her plea filed in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu court. It was the happiest news for Vijay fans. Following the legal development, an old interview of Vijay resurfaced, in which he spoke about his father’s role in his and Sangeetha’s alliance.

Vijay’s confession about his marriage to Sangeetha resurfaced

Sangeetha and Vijay started dating in 1996 and tied the knot in 1999. They registered their marriage in the UK in 1998. The duo later celebrated their nuptials with a grand ceremony in Chennai on August 25, 1999, which included both Hindu and Christian rituals. For the unversed, Sangeetha comes from a Hindu Tamil family, while Vijay’s father is a Christian and his mother is a Hindu.

In a throwback interaction, Vijay recalled an interesting detail about his marriage with Sangeetha. Speaking to a leading publication, Vijay shared that it was his father who liked Sangeetha a lot. Elaborating on the same, the actor revealed:

“My father liked her. When he said he wanted to talk to me, I got anxious. But he asked about Sangeetha, and I said she’s a nice girl; why are you asking? Then he asked if I wanted to get married. I was taken by surprise and asked for some time. Later, our families met, and we got engaged.”

After a year of marriage, Vijay and Sangeetha welcomed their first child, a son, Jason Sanjay, in 2000. The couple’s second child, a daughter, Divya Saasha, was born in Chennai in 2005. Both their children have appeared in Vijay’s films, as Jason was seen in Vettaikaaran and Divya made an appearance in Theri.

Vijay and Sangeetha’s divorce row

On February 27, 2026, news surfaced that Sangeetha filed for divorce from Vijay at the Chengalpattu Family Court. In her petition, Sangeetha stated that she discovered an alleged affair involving Vijay and a female actress. While the petition does not name the actress to protect privacy, social media speculation has frequently linked him to his Leo co-star, Trisha Krishnan, though these claims remain unverified. In her petition, Sangeetha also claimed that despite many assurances, Vijay continued his illicit relationship.

In her divorce petition, Sangeetha revealed that she came to know about the affair in 2021. But she chose to maintain silence due to Vijay’s repeated assurances. In her petition, Sangeetha mentioned that she chose the path of divorce after Vijay continued attending events and social gatherings with the actress. An excerpt of the petition can be read as:

“The respondent continued travelling abroad and attending public events with the said actress. The actress regularly posted photographs of these outings on social media. The respondent neither denied nor objected to these posts, thereby tacitly endorsing them. These posts widely circulated, causing repeated humiliation to the petitioner and the children.”

The case was due for proceedings on August 7, 2026, and to everyone’s surprise, Sangeetha changed her mind and her stance came as a shock to many. Sangeetha appeared before the court through video-conferencing when her plea was taken up. She then told the court that she no longer wished to pursue the case as she didn’t want a separation from Vijay. According to official court sources, following Sangeetha’s submission, the court disposed of the petition as withdrawn.

What do you think about Vijay’s take on his father playing an important role in his alliance with Sangeetha?
