Actress Daisy Edgar-Jones opened up on her love life saying she is like the character she plays in the film adaptation of Jane Austen novel
Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones opened up about her new role in the movie adaptation of Jane Austen novel Sense and Sensibility, saying she is much like her character in the love department. The 28 year old plays logical Elinor, the eldest of the three Dashwood sisters in the 1800s-published novel. In the plot Elinor hides her love for Edward, believing he is engaged to someone else, before they eventually marry.
Daisy told BBC: “When it comes to love, I think I am very much more Elinor in every sort of way. I definitely lead a lot with my head and try and push aside, bury my emotion.”
In real life, the actress is said to be in a relationship with photographer and director Ben Seed, but her chemistry with Normal People co-star Paul Mescal, as they played lovers Marianne and Connell, had viewers captivated. Since filming the series in 2021, the duo have remained close pals, while Daisy admitted to falling in love with him “as a friend.” As well as romance, a theme of Sense and Sensibility is of sisterhood. It’s something that has struck a chord with Daisy, who is an only child.
“I’ve heard a lot of people say that after watching the film, it either makes them want a sister or to ring up their sister and say like, ‘Hey, I love you,’ and I think that’s really special. It’s the part of the film I’m most proud of.”
The film hits cinemas next week, and has already received rave reviews from the critics. Some have praised the chemistry between Daisy and the actress who plays her sister Marianne, Esme Creed-Miles. Others applauded the film makers for following the original novel closely.
Speaking about why they didn’t ‘modernise’ the well-loved classic, Daisy said: “It does feel very much like it’s honouring the period, but I think there’s a freshness to the filmmaking that I think is really beautiful.”
Away from Sense and Sensibility, Daisy has a packed schedule. Next Spring, legal drama A Place in Hell hits screens, while she stars in Disney+ comedy Mosquito and heist movie Here Comes The Flood. But the star also has family on her mind and recently opened up on her battle with womb condition endometriosis.
“A big thing is struggling to have kids and I definitely don’t want it to get in the way of that,” she admitted.
“It affects so many women and many don’t know they have it. Of course cramping is normal but to be doubled over in pain isn’t. You shouldn’t have to grin and bear it.”
