Rima Hassan has filed a complaint against Laurent Nunez after a TV investigation alleged he had discussed confidential details of her detention with journalists
French MEP Rima Hassan has filed a formal complaint against Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, accusing him of helping fuel false drug allegations against her.
The prominent pro-Palestinian lawmaker was detained in April as part of an investigation into alleged “apology for terrorism” over a since-deleted social media post. While searching her belongings, police found suspicious substances, prompting a separate drug-possession probe and media reports that synthetic drugs had been discovered on her person. The drug probe was dropped after laboratory tests found no synthetic drugs, but not before the story drew widespread media attention.
Hassan filed her court complaint against Nunez on Friday after a French investigative news magazine called Complement d’enquete alleged that the minister had discussed the suspected drugs incident with reporters before laboratory tests had been completed.
Hassan and her lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, lodged the complaint with a special French court that handles cases involving government ministers. Brengarth accused Nunez of breaching investigative secrecy.
