KANAGAWA
Police in Kanagawa Prefecture have rearrested four teenagers on suspicion of murdering a 17-year-old high school student who died after being assaulted in Sagamihara in August.

The victim, Setsuna Shimizu, a second-year high school student in Sagamihara, was assaulted in Chuo Ward of the city on August 22 and later died.

Police had previously arrested four teenagers, two aged 16 and two aged 17, on suspicion of injuring a male junior high school student who was with Shimizu at the time of the incident.

On September 20, police rearrested the four on suspicion of murder, alleging that they killed Shimizu by assaulting him, including striking him in the head.

Police have not disclosed whether the four suspects have admitted or denied the allegations.

Investigators believe Shimizu and the junior high school student were riding a motorcycle shortly before the attack when they were pursued by a car carrying the four teenagers.

The pair are then believed to have been assaulted, and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to Shimizu’s death.
