Hyderabad:With bank unions calling a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30, along with 4th Saturday holiday and Sunday preceding the strikes, bank customers have been advised to complete essential transactions early.
The strike will come immediately after the fourth Saturday and Sunday on September 26 and 27, when bank branches will remain closed, resulting in a five-day period during which customers may not have access to branch-based services.
The united forum of bank unions, representing several major bank employee and officer unions, has called the strike over various demands, including the implementation of a five-day banking week. The unions have also raised issues related to the performance linked incentive scheme and other service-related matters.
Several banks have advised customers to complete important branch-related work before the strike. Services such as cash deposits and withdrawals at branches, cheque-related work, account services, KYC updates and other counter-based transactions could be affected depending on employee participation.
P. Sravan, a branch manager of a private bank in Hyderabad said “Customers who have urgent work such as cash transactions, cheque-related services, KYC updates or other branch work should complete them in advance to avoid inconvenience during the strike period.”
Banks have also advised customers to use digital banking channels wherever possible. ATMs, internet banking, mobile banking and UPI services are expected to provide alternatives for several routine transactions, although customers may face disruptions in some services depending on the bank.
State Bank of India has issued a public advisory, and said they are making all possible efforts to provide essential banking services during the strike period. They advised customers to plan their banking requirements ahead of the five-day period and use ATMs and customer service points.
