The Kansas City Chiefs walked out of Week 2 with an overtime 33-30 win over the Indianapolis Colts on “Sunday Night Football.” Travis Kelce looked like the best tight end in the league once again, giving the offense a major boost against Indy. His play caught the attention of Dan Orlovsky, as the former NFL quarterback compared Kelce to San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Orlovsky explained his reasoning during a guest appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” The popular football analyst claims that Kelce plays football similarly to how Shanahan calls plays. In that, the 36-year-old tight end just finds the space in the defense. That’s something Shanahan tends to do when dialing up plays for his 49ers offense.
“When I watch Kelce play right now, I feel like I’m watching Kyle Shanahan call offensive plays,” Orlovsky said. “I think one of the things about Kyle is so great is he understands rules of a defense, and where they can and cannot be. I feel Travis has got that same understanding. Like, he just knows, okay, ‘Defensive structure is this. That means you guys can’t be there. My route might say 10 yards, but why wouldn’t I break it to seven yards?’ And there’s so many plays where [Kelce] just kind of just goes to space.”

Travis Kelce erupted for 101 yards and a touchdown off nine receptions against the Colts on Sunday night. He led Kansas City in targets from quarterback Patrick Mahomes with 11. There were multiple times throughout the contest when Mahomes found the four-time First-Team All-Pro wide open, as Indianapolis had a difficult time covering Kelce throughout the game.

The 14-year veteran and the Chiefs will aim to remain undefeated in their next game in Week 3. Kansas City will fly Southeast for a road game against the Miami Dolphins.
