Indianapolis Colts Make Big Wide Receiver Move After Alec Pierce Injury

The Indianapolis Colts suffered a heartbreaking defeat on Sunday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.

Despite having multiple opportunities to win the football at the end of regulation and in overtime, the Colts came up short. They also ended up seeing star wide receiver Alec Pierce go down with an ankle/heel injury that he had just come back from before the season.

Pierce came into the 2026 NFL season as the No. 1 wide receiver in Indianapolis. He was signed to a massive four-year, $114 million contract during the offseason. Unfortunately, the Colts are going to have to play without him for some time.

That being said, Indianapolis made an aggressive move on Monday to add a seven-year veteran wide receiver.

Indianapolis Colts Add New Wide Receiver Following Alec Pierce’s Injury

According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Colts have agreed to sign veteran wideout Darius Slayton. He will reunite with quarterback Daniel Jones, who he played with for the New York Giants. Both players were drafted by the Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft.

“Veteran WR Darius Slayton is signing with the Colts, sources tell @ringer @netflixsports,” Pelissero reported on X.

“With Alec Pierce dealing with a heel injury, Indianapolis turns to Slayton, who played the past seven seasons with the Giants — and now reunites with Daniel Jones.”

Slayton has had a solid NFL career to this point. He has played in 106 career games, catching 296 passes for 4,435 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Last season in New York, the 29-year-old wide receiver appeared in 14 games. He caught 37 passes for 538 yards and a touchdown.

Just before the start of the regular season, the Giants made the decision to release Slayton. He received interest from multiple teams, but opted to remain a free agent until now. Slayton will likely be asked to play a key role early on to begin his tenure with the Colts.

Next up for Indianapolis will be a Week 3 matchup at home against the AFC South rival Houston Texans. It’s unclear at this point in time whether or not Slayton will be able to play in that game.
