Vijayawada: The City Police on Tuesday have registered six cases across the Suryaraopet, Machavaram, and Krishnalanka police stations following a violent clash between YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) workers and newly recruited Mega DSC teachers.
The charges include attempt to murder, assault on government employees, and violations under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. A YSRCP youth wing leader, Ravichandra, has already been taken into police custody, and authorities are scanning CCTV footage to identify other history-sheeters and rowdy-sheeters involved in the mob violence.
YSRCP leaders and cadres on Monday staged a demonstration outside the SAAP office, alleging major corruption and irregularities in the recruitment of teachers under the sports quota. Concurrently, hundreds of newly recruited DSC sports quota teachers arrived at the office to submit a memorandum verifying the authenticity of their medals and certificates.
Following the violent clash, the City Police intervened and faced difficulty in controlling the protesters as some broke through barricades and marched towards the SAAP office. Central zone ACP K. Damodar Rao said, “We have booked three cases — one each at Machavaram Krishna Lanka and Suryapeta – so far against the agitators. At Machavaram PS alone, five persons were booked.”
