Spider-Man fame Tobey Maguire will officially be a single man very soon. Yes, you read it right. According to reports, the duo is moving closer to officially ending their marriage. Five years ago, in 2020, Tobey’s ex-wife, Jennifer Meyer, filed for divorce. The former couple announced their separation in 2016. They called it quits after 9 years of marriage. For the unversed, Jennifer and Tobey got married in 2007 in an intimate wedding ceremony.

According to the legal documents obtained by TMZ, Jennifer and Tobey have agreed to dissolve their marriage and become legally single again. However, the judge still needs to sign their agreement. The former couple has yet to finalize a full settlement regarding their assets and other issues. Both the parties have also agreed to appoint a private judge to handle disputes as they work through the remaining issues in the case.
Back in 2025, Tobey asked the court for joint legal and physical custody of their 16-year-old son, Otis. The Spider-Man actor wanted them to use private mediation to discuss child and spousal support, noting that they have a prenup signed. The duo also has an 18-year-old daughter, Ruby, but she’s considered an adult, so that should simplify some of the matters.

Tobey and Jennifer first crossed paths in early 2003. Four years later, in 2007, the duo got married in Kona, Hawaii, in an intimate wedding ceremony surrounded by a small group of family and friends. The former couple embraced parenthood on November 10, 2006, by welcoming their first child, a daughter named Ruby Sweetheart. Three years later, on May 8, 2009, they completed their family by welcoming their second child, a son named Otis.
Everything was going well until 2016. Tobey and Jennifer shocked everyone by announcing their split in October 2016. Back then, the duo, through a joint statement, told PEOPLE, “After much soul-searching and consideration, we have made the decision to separate as a couple. As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship.”
Four years after their separation, in 2020, Jennifer filed for divorce from Tobey. At the time, the source told PEOPLE that the two had been living separately for a while. Speaking about their split, Jennifer said to Gwyneth Paltrow that they took couples therapy before their separation. She admitted that the split had been one of the “greatest teachers.”
During their separation, an insider told PEOPLE that Jennifer and Tobey had completely different interests and didn’t seem to connect. The source added that while the Spider-Man actor was extremely private and prefers to stay home, the celebrity jewelry designer was very social and had many girlfriends. The insider shared:
“They haven’t been happy together for a long time. But they are great parents, and they love their children.”
After their split, Jennifer shared that Tobey is her best friend and would do anything for her, and she would also do anything for him. In a 2022 podcast with Foster and Gabby Bernstein, Jennifer described her breakup as a ‘beautiful experience’ in her life. She confessed that she would love her ex-husband, Tobey, to death. She shared that they have a beautiful family. She said:
“It’s been the most beautiful experience of my life having this beautiful breakup. I mean, I can’t even explain. I would literally do anything in the world for Tobey. He is my brother. I love him to death, and we have the most beautiful family.”
