Chennai: Former chief minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin on Tuesday filed a petition in the Madras high court stating that he could not be held responsible for each and every social media post published by different wings or functionaries of the party just because he is the party leader.
The petition was in response to a defamation case filed by minister Aadhav Arjuna for the remarks made by the DMK IT wing linking him with an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case of a person called John Britto.
Stalin in his counter, said he is the head of the party and exercises administrative control over the office-bearers of various wings of the DMK. But he could not be held responsible for individual acts of the members or wings of the party.
He denied that he had given any instruction or approval to the DMK IT wing’s post saying an individual called John Britto booked by the Enforcement Directorate in a drug-trafficking case is the minister’s relative.
The DMK leader said that the minister had not denied that he had a relation with the name of John Britto facing an ED case. He said the minister’s wife, mother-in-law, and father-in-law were also facing criminal cases registered by the ED, while the minister himself is facing CBI investigation in the Karur stampede case. The petitioner could not claim that his reputation had been ruined when there are pending cases against him and family members, Stalin said.
