An inquest into the death of Ted Lasso star Anthony Head’s partner Sarah Fisher has revealed she died of thyroid cancer.
The animal activist died at the age of 61 after battling cancer. Sarah died “with very little warning”, her daughters said in a heartbreaking statement following her passing.
Now, a statement from her daughter Emily Head was read to the inquest by Dr Peter Harrowing, area coroner for Avon. It said Fisher had continued to muck out her donkeys and horses and go on lengthy dog walks.
“She did not let her diagnosis define her and would tell anyone who would visit that she was too busy living,” Head wrote.
In a message at the time of her death, daughters Emily and Daisy said: “It is immensely shocking to us all, and came with very little warning.
“No words could ever express all that she encompassed, or begin to describe the crater her absence has left. We know how profoundly she has impacted the lives of so many, and we couldn’t be more proud of the legacy she is leaving behind.
“We only wish she’d had more time to share her knowledge and brilliance with us, and the world. Our grief knows no bounds, nor did the reaches of her incredibly unique and irreplaceable spirit.”
Today, an inquest was carried out into Sarah’s death. It confirmed she had died from natural causes. Harrowing offered his condolences to Fisher’s family, who did not attend.
A previous inquest said she had died from a rare and highly aggressive form of cancer, namely anaplastic thyroid cancer. She died at her home at Tilley Farm, a 90-acre animal sanctuary.
Just months later, Anthony himself died. The actor sadly died in June of “complications due to pneumonia”. “He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family. It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many,” his daughters said in a statement.
At the time of Sarah’s death, Battersea Cats and Dogs Home in London paid tribute to the activist, writing: “We’re truly sorry to lose our beloved friend and Ambassador Sarah Fisher and send our deepest sympathies to Sarah’s partner Anthony, her daughters, and her family and friends.
“Sarah, alongside her partner Anthony Head, gave so much to our charity, fostering dogs, using her canine behaviour expertise to train our staff and volunteers, and contributing in so many ways to make a real difference in animal welfare. She will be dearly missed by all of us at Battersea.”
Pauline Leeson, the founder of Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary in Somerset, also paid tribute. “Sarah was an advocate for all animals and was always a voice for those dear souls who have no voice.
“She will be a huge loss to the animal kingdom she worked so tirelessly for, helping so very many animals of all species to find their way to cope and be happy in this changing world,” she said.
“We at Holly Hedge are so proud to have known Sarah. Her memory will live on in all the good work and positive change she has made to their lives. Our hearts go out to Anthony, Emily, Daisy and family.”
