Katie Price has opened up about her mum Amy’s health battles, just a week after posting a devastating message, begging her terminally ill mother not to leave her
Katie Price has admitted her fears that her terminally ill mother is “taking a turn” for the worst. Amy Price, 72, has been battling lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis since 2017.
In the latest episode of her podcast with sister Sophie, Katie said the family was taking it “day by day” as they didn’t know what would happen with their mum’s health.
“At the moment, we’re playing it day by day with Mum,” she said. “We’re all juggling, depends how my mum is each day to what we do. Obviously if Mum takes a turn, Mum’s more important than anything.”
Sophie then articulated why this was so hard for Katie, noting that her sister’s “support is going to go”. She added to her sister that “the person you support is going to…”, trailing off before she had to finish the sentence.
Elsewhere in the episode, the sisters shared that they had been going to hospital a lot with their mum. Sophie said: “I’ve been at the hospital today with Mum.” And Katie added that she was there “yesterday all day.”
Katie said the whole family had been “trying hard” to take care of their mum but that Sophie got extra “brownie points” as she had been going to the hospital more. She admitted that she would go more, but struggled to as she had to work and take care of her eldest son Harvey, who has Prader-Willi syndrome, autism, and septo-optic dysplasia.
“When I’ve got Harv and I haven’t got carers or anything every day—only a Monday and a Friday I get help—and it’s hard to bring Harv. I’ve got to work, and I can’t work if I’ve got Harv,” the former glamour model said. “It’s just everything is a right juggle at the minute.”
As such, Katie had asked Harvey’s social worker for extra help, explaining that she was so tired. “Until Harvey goes to residential, I said to his social worker, ‘I need some help at home, because I can’t do everything: see Mum, try and work, and do this’. You know, he doesn’t sleep properly, wakes in the night, I’m knackered.”
Amy Price was diagnosed the terminal lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2017. Doctors had warned she had less than five years left when she was first diagnosed.
Katie has previously opened up about her mother’s illness. Just over a week ago, the 48-year-old took to Instagram with a devastating message. She wrote: “Mum, please don’t leave me please find the strength to stay with me longer on this earth. You’re my EVERYTHING and you know I’ve turned everything around and you’re so proud of me.
“Your eyes, my eyes, my voice, my strength, my abasolute everything. You’re a warrior and I’m your baby girl always and you love me through everything and held my hand. I can’t lose you, not now, not EVER. I’ve NEVER loved anyone as much as you, you’re my whole world.”
