Andy Carroll has called his marriage to Billi Mucklow a ‘car crash’ and claimed it was ‘on its last legs’ before it even began in his new tell-all book, Owning It
Former Premier League footballer Andy Carroll has said his marriage to Billi Mucklow was “on its last legs” before it began. The 37-year-old married Mucklow, a TOWIE star, in 2022 but their relationship ended in 2024.
In his new book, Owning It, Carroll claimed that Mucklow, 38, agreed to move to France with him when he needed to move there to play football, but “reneged on the deal”. He said he was left feeling “depressed” when she decided to stay in England.
He added that their children, Arlo, Wolf and Marvel Mae, as well as his children from a past relationship, Emilie Rose and Lucas, were meant to join him but stayed with Mucklow.
Carroll wrote: “Suddenly I had two years on my own”. Though he enjoyed his time playing for Amiens and Bordeaux, he said he was “too depressed and drinking too much” because he was trying to “mask the pain from being away from the kids”.
Going back over his relationship with Mucklow, whom he got engaged to in 2014, Carroll said it was “disintegrating” while he was in France, but that it started “going downhill” when he left West Ham in 2019.
“It was on its last legs before we tied the knot,” he said. “But we had three kids plus custody of my first two so it just felt like the right thing to do.”
Carroll then spoke about France again, revealing that his move, however hard it was, helped him realise that his marriage had ended. “I got so low that I started doing my own therapy sessions. I came to the realisation that I was missing having control of my life, I was missing my kids, but I wasn’t missing her.”
When he returned, he spent the summer with his family in Essex and said he “loved being around the kids but hated the rest of it”. As such, he started drinking more, especially at parties they attended.
Mucklow and Carroll almost didn’t get married in 2022, despite having been engaged for eight years. While on his stag do, Carroll was pictured drunkenly passed out with two women in his bed. The wedding only went ahead because one of the women insisted to Mucklow that nothing sexual happened.
Only weeks after Carroll and Mucklow split, he announced that he was dating celebrity stylist Lou Teasdale. Mucklow’s friends said she was blindsided by the news and that she “knew Andy had someone” but not that it was Teasdale, only discovering this shortly before the relationship was made public.
Carroll and Teasdale met at Glastonbury in July 2024. In his book, Carroll revealed that this was the day after he got into a brawl whilst out in Mayfair at the birthday party of one of Mucklow’s friends.
