Football legend Wayne Rooney has insisted that he is not using any sort of weight loss jabs to shed the pounds and explained the reasons behind his recent health kick
Wayne Rooney has insisted that he is not using weight loss jabs after his much remarked-upon ‘glow up’ transformation. The former footballer, 40, has lost an impressive six stone in recent times and has now candidly revealed just how he has done it.
The sports star, who is rumoured to be heading into the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle this year, has now explained that he cut out alcohol and just tried to be a bit healthier overall.
During an appearance on Thursday’s This Morning with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, Ben said: “You’ve had this glow up, as the girls would call it. You look really well. How are you feeling?”
Wayne responded: “I feel great, I haven’t drank actually for a while. I just wanted to feel a bit healthier and be healthier. Obviously, eating habits are a lot better and training, so everyone is saying I’m on this pen thing – which I’m not. I wanna get that out there, I actually am working hard to try and look better and be healthier.”
Wayne, who has been married to Coleen Rooney since 2008 and has Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and eight-year-old Cass with her, went on to explain that he was inspired to take up the health kick so he could spend more time with his children.
“There’s things you do which I’ve missed out on because I’ve been away with football, I haven’t been there at some birthdays or Christmas, I missed out on these moments. And when I stopped playing I got stuck in a bit of a rut, probably drinking a bit too much or not getting in a routine of training.
“I just thought I wanted to enjoy time with my kids when they’re at this age, and be clean as well, and actually I’ve been more pleasant, more there with them.”
Coleen agreed: “It’s made a massive difference. All my life I’ve planned everything with Wayne out of it, and if he’s there it’s a bonus whereas now as a family unit we can plan together. It’s just nice to share the load.”
The star has turned to TV and alongside wife Coleen is fronting new Disney+ show The Real Rooneys, which premieres this week.
The new show marks a huge change for Wayne, away from football and his new focus on his family and his kids.
His decision to step away from football management sees him getting more involved in the day to day lives of his kids, like school pick ups, whilst Coleen focuses on the biggest opportunities of her career, including her brand new Primark range.
