Hyderabad: Banks remained open on Sunday ahead of the three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30, with regular customer footfall reported through the day and ATMs stocked with cash.
Unions have called the strike demanding a five-day working week and other long-pending demands.
“There was no rush in our branch, and the situation was mostly the same at other branches.
As banks opened on a Sunday for the first time, customers used the opportunity, especially for cash transactions.
With three continuous strike days this month, account holders utilised the service,” a bank employee said.
An SBI official said customers who were aware that banks would remain open on Sunday used the services.
“All the ATMs have been loaded with cash. The online transactions will continue as usual,” the official said.
Most customers visited branches for cash transactions and internal fund transfers, with higher footfall recorded during the morning hours.
“We had already informed customers about the strike and hope they will not face any inconvenience,” the official said.
Bank officials said month-end operations were generally carried out even when the last days of a month fell on Saturdays or Sundays.
They said the strike would, however, affect half-yearly closing operations this month.
“This month is the half yearly closing and bankers have some targets and to achieve them most of the financial institutions use the last days only but this strike is affecting the half yearly closing,” they added.
