De’Von Achane will miss the rest of the 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL during the Miami Dolphins‘ 24-10 defeat by the Kansas City Chiefs.
The running back sustained the injury on his third rushing attempt of Sunday’s game when he was tackled awkwardly by Chiefs safety Alohi Gilman.
Achane was slow to get back to his feet and was eventually helped towards the blue medical tent under his own power. He spent several minutes being assessed before leaving the tent and heading to the locker room for further testing.
He was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley admitted after the match that the initial signs were concerning, although the full extent of the problem had not yet been established.
“To be very honest with you, it does not sound very optimistic at this moment,” Hafley said. “But I can’t give you any other details until I have them.”
Achane’s injury comes as Miami sit 0-3 following their loss to the Chiefs and leaves the Dolphins without the leading figure in their backfield.
The 25-year-old had rushed for 127 yards from 34 carries across Miami’s first three games of the season.
Achane’s injury comes after new contract
Achane’s season-ending injury is particularly significant given how much the Dolphins have relied on him since he entered the NFL.
Although the 5-foot-9, 195-pound back missed five games with a knee problem during his rookie season, he had remained relatively healthy since then.
He missed only two games combined during the past two seasons despite receiving 586 total touches across 2024 and 2025.
Miami made their long-term commitment to Achane clear in May by handing him a four-year, $64 million contract extension that runs through the 2030 season.
Now, the Dolphins must find a way to replace a player who has accounted for far more touches than any other current member of their roster over the past three years.
