Kolkata: As former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee reached New Delhi on Tuesday to attend I.N.D.I.A. bloc meeting as the leader of Mamata All India Trinamool Congress on Wednesday, her successor Suvendu Adhikari from BJP lambasted her for hobnobbing with ‘Dimagi Naxals’.
Before leaving for the national capital, Ms Banerjee told the media at the NSCBI Airport, “I am going to participate in the I.N.D.I.A. meeting.” This is her first visit to New Delhi after losing power and her stake on her party and its symbol. Within hours, Mr Adhikari came down heavily on Ms Banerjee and described the top opposition leaders’ meeting as a discussion with ‘Dimagi Naxals’.
He alleged, “INDI alliance is finished. She is going to have a session with ‘Dimagi Naxals’. All know what those who chant ‘Azadi’ slogans can do. I will urge the Delhi Police and central IB to keep a watch to ensure there is no meeting with anti-national forces. She is the main force of the ‘Dimagi Naxals’. On one hand, there are ‘Jamatis’ while on the other, there are ‘Dimagi Naxals’. They are walking with both of them.”
The CM also targeted the Congress claiming on X-handle, “THE HEIGHT OF HYPOCRISY: CONGRESS AND ITS POLITICS OF ‘CONVENIENCE’. The double standards of the Congress party and its opportunistic alliance partners stand completely exposed once again.”
He argued, “When it comes to Constitutional bodies and established electoral procedures like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Congress follows a singular, shameless doctrine: Heads I win, tails the system is rigged.”
Mr Adhikari pointed out, “Look at the glaring duplicity: In Kerala, where the Congress-led front locked horns with the Left to capture power, their leaders were all praises for the rigorous Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. They championed the purging of bogus entries, credited the meticulous cleanup of rolls for leveling the playing field, and hailed institutional vigilance when it facilitated their victory and ousted the Left. When the process helps them win, it is celebrated as a “triumph of grassroots democracy.”
He added, “Yet, the moment the very same Special Intensive Revision (SIR) takes place in states where Congress and its allies face inevitable defeat, the script flips overnight: When they win: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is objective, robust and proof of a thriving democracy. When they lose: The exact same institutional mechanism suddenly becomes “manipulated,” “flawed” and targeted. This is nothing but the petty politics of convenience. You cannot selectively trust institutions only when the results suit your political fortunes.”
“The People of West Bengal and the rest of the nation see right through this facade. A political entity that lacks the courage to accept people’s rejection cannot hide behind frivolous attacks on routine democratic procedures. Hypocrisy has a limit, but for the Congress and its allies, duplicity remains their only permanent policy!”
