Whale carcass to be removed from City Beach today
South City Beach will be closed again today as authorities begin the mammoth operation of trying to remove a 31-tonne whale carcass.
Opportunistic drum lines are also likely to be dropped again by Fisheries officers after two great white sharks, lured close to shore by the carcass, were caught, tagged and released yesterday.
The Town of Cambridge will bring in specialist crews, an excavator and heavy machinery to scoop the carcass up, and transport it to the tip.
The efforts are expected to start at around 10am today, more than two days since the beaching, which is attracting great white sharks, some five metres long, to the shoreline.
