After Cathriona’s death, a suicide note was discovered at her house, where the late artist had left an apology addressed to Carrey, who had split days before her passing. In the final farewell note addressed to Jim Carrey, signed with the nickname “Dewdrop”, Cathriona wrote:
“I’ve spent 3 days now in disbelief that you’re not here. I can go on broken-hearted and try to put the pieces back. I could, I just don’t have the will this time.”

Cathriona’s death came as a shock to Carrey, who was devastated by the news. He released an emotional statement penning his shock and disbelief. Heaping praise on her, he penned:
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”
In addition to being a makeup artist, Cathriona was an aspiring actress and was in the media due to her high-profile relationship with Carrey. She worked as a makeup artist and hair stylist on projects such as The Online Gamer (2011–2012), Firefly (2012), and Bunker 731 (2012). Jim and Cathriona’s relationship began in March 2012 after they met on a film set.
Carrey and Cathriona’s dating rumors sparked when they were spotted in September 2012, walking together on a beach in Malibu. After some months, Carrey confirmed their breakup. However, the former couple reunited in early 2015 and were spotted in many places.
They also took a vacation together and also celebrated her birthday in Malibu. They broke up for the last time on September 24, 2015, and just four days later, she was found dead from a prescription drug overdose in her Los Angeles home.
The tragedy didn’t end here and was escalated when Cathriona White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, and her mother, Brigid Sweetman, filed lawsuits against Carrey in 2016. In their filing, they alleged that Carrey provided Cathriona with the drugs on which she overdosed, despite knowing that she had mental health issues. The actor denied all the accusations, calling the lawsuit a “heartless attempt to exploit” him. The case was ultimately dismissed in 2018.
