Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) will soon collect the garbage/waste management fee along with property tax, CMC Commissioner Srijana said during a media interaction on Saturday.

The Commissioner said the civic body is examining a differentiated waste-fee mechanism for slum areas and other localities. The move is aimed at strengthening the municipal sanitation system and streamlining waste collection charges.

She said CMC would also procure around 3,500 Swachh autos through Ramky to improve door-to-door garbage collection. The new vehicles would preferably be allotted to existing auto workers willing to operate them.

The Commissioner also announced that CMC would soon introduce a four-bin waste segregation system, though details on who would supply the bins are yet to be finalised.

398 illegal structures demolished

CMC has demolished 398 illegal structures since the August 22 Anjaiah Nagar building collapse, where a seven-storeyed structure reportedly constructed on a 50-square-yard plot collapsed.

Srijana said the civic body would continue strict action against unauthorised and rule-violating constructions and would not back down despite pressure or threats. The CMC would also ensure that power connections are not provided to illegal buildings.

She said a special policy for hostels was being planned, as a large share of recent unauthorised constructions were being carried out for hostel use. The policy would address the conversion of residential buildings for commercial hostel purposes and unauthorised additional floors.

₹4,000–5,000 crore borrowing for flood works

CMC is preparing a master plan for a permanent solution to flooding and is expected to finalise a DPR soon. The civic body is prepared to borrow ₹4,000–5,000 crore for the works, which would be taken up in phases.

The Commissioner said CMC also plans to introduce a sponge-city approach, based on the model being implemented in Coimbatore, to improve groundwater recharge.

One Day Every Ward from November 2

CMC has completed one round of its One Day Every Ward programme across its 76 wards and identified 1,899 issues. A second round will begin from November 2, with ward-level problems to be reviewed again.

Other key announcements

CMC’s new office building is likely to be taken up soon, with the DPR under preparation.

Recycled plastic will be used for roads, footpaths and kerbs.

A dedicated app will be introduced for transporting construction and demolition (C&D) waste to authorised plants.

Vehicles found dumping C&D waste along roadsides will be seized.

CMC says it currently has sufficient funds for development works.

Five road-widening projects have been given priority, with up to 90% TDR being provided in eligible cases.
