Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are gearing up for their second collaboration, Love & War, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles. However, if recent reports are to be believed, the actor-director duo could reunite for a third time for their shelved film Inshallah.
The film was announced in 2019, with Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt set to play the lead roles. Now, the project is reportedly being reworked, with Bhansali and Alia discussing a reimagined version of the love story.
According to Mid-Day, Inshallah will undergo substantial writing changes. The portal quoted a source as saying, “It’s not being looked at as the same film that was announced years ago. The core story remains the same, but the material will be reworked and given a fresh spin.”
As per the report, Bhansali is focusing on developing the script before finalising the male lead. Salman Khan is currently occupied with Raj and DK’s film, while Shah Rukh Khan has yet to decide on his next project after King. The report also suggests that the reworked story could call for a younger actor.
The source continued, “Salman is occupied with Raj-DK’s film while Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t decided his next after King. It’s also possible that the story will seek a younger actor.”
Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt first collaborated on the film Gangubai Kathiawadi. The filmmaker previously revealed in an interview that the actress was deeply affected by Inshallah being shelved and cried before locking herself in a room.
For now, Bhansali, Alia, Ranbir and Vicky are gearing up for Love & War, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 21, 2027.
