Intensive Campaigns Reflect ‘Thambi’ Vijay’s Fear of Defeat: Kanimozhi

Thoothukudi: DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi Karunanidhi MP has said the intensive street-by-street campaign undertaken by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay reflected the anxiety and fear of defeat of “Thambi” Vijay.

Her reference to the Chief Minister as “Thambi” was a sarcastic retort to Vijay’s earlier mocking reference to M.K. Stalin as his “sweet uncle”.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Kanimozhi said the electorates of Dharapuram and Madhuranthagam would definitely vote for those standing by justice and teach TVK a lesson for deceiving the people and undermining democracy.

On allegations by Communist Party leaders that TVK functionaries were distributing cash to voters, Kanimozhi said people should understand that the TVK government had reached a

point where even the Left parties supporting it were criticising the party that claimed to be

a “clean political

force”.

Pointing to the TVK’s repeated claim that its government would not commit any mistake and would remain a “clean” political force, Kanimozhi said merely making such assertions from public platforms was not enough and that they had to be demonstrated through action.

She alleged that the TVK administration had failed on this count, with the public security system weakening, crimes on the rise and people living in fear. She also alleged that the government had failed to bring in new development schemes or

attract industrial

investments.

Reacting to Tiruchy MP Durai Vaiko’s claim that DMK candidates in the Dharapuram and Madhuranthagam by-elections would not even retain their deposit amounts, the DMK deputy general secretary said Durai Vaiko should not forget that his election as a parliamentarian was made possible by the DMK and the hard work of its cadre.

Kanimozhi, however, appeared irritated when reporters sought her response to the complaint that DMK president M.K. Stalin had body-shamed Dharapuram TVK candidate Sathyabama. She retorted that Stalin was not someone who would make remarks intended to hurt anyone.
