Prince William and Kate Middleton are huge fans of a hit BBC show, with a royal expert revealing just how obsessed they are after the future king playfully teased one of its stars

Prince William and Kate Middleton have a television obsession that royal fans may not expect, with the couple reportedly unable to get enough of one hit BBC series.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have enjoyed watching a variety of popular programmes over the years, but a royal expert has revealed just how invested they are in their latest favourite.

With its twists, secret identities and dramatic betrayals, it is easy to see why the royal couple have been hooked.

Speaking on Palace Confidential on YouTube, Daily Mail royal editor Rebecca English revealed that William and Kate are huge fans of The Celebrity Traitors , the BBC’s hit reality competition, which has an IMDb rating of 8.7.

“Now, William and Catherine are massive Traitors fans. I can tell you that now. They love the programme. Absolutely glued to it,” Rebecca said.

The series sees a group of celebrities compete in a game of deception, with a select few secretly chosen as traitors who must deceive their fellow contestants while avoiding detection.

The faithful contestants, meanwhile, must work together to identify the traitors before being eliminated themselves. With suspicion mounting and alliances constantly shifting, the programme has become a hit with viewers keen to work out who is telling the truth.

William’s enthusiasm for the show was even apparent during a recent royal engagement in Somerset, where he met actor Ross Kemp, who is an ambassador for the National Emergencies Trust.

The Prince was visiting in his capacity as the charity’s patron to highlight new equipment being introduced to help people affected by flooding during the winter months.

However, Kemp is also a familiar face on The Celebrity Traitors , where his tough-guy reputation has been somewhat undermined by his tendency to become suspicious when someone touches him.

Rebecca explained that William decided to have some fun with the actor by occasionally touching him and asking: “Is it alright to touch you, Ross?”

She said the joke was an inside reference to the programme, adding that viewers familiar with the show would understand the humour behind the exchange.

It is not the first time the Prince and Princess have opened up about their television preferences.

During a 2017 interview on BBC Radio 1, the couple discussed their viewing habits while promoting their Heads Together mental health campaign.

William revealed they were fans of American drama Homeland and fantasy series Game of Thrones , telling presenter Scott Mills: “Homeland, we’re big fans of that, and Game of Thrones .”

The couple also revealed that takeaways were a regular treat, with Kate confirming they enjoyed ordering curry. William confessed, however, that spicy food was not his strong point.

Meanwhile, the latest episode of The Celebrity Traitors saw Richard E Grant banished from the show, with mathematician Hannah Fry recruited to take his place as a traitor.

The actor received the most votes from the other contestants, including his fellow traitors, Maya Jama and James Acaster.

As he prepared to reveal his identity to the group, Grant announced: “I am… an unfaithful traitor.”

Reflecting on his downfall to the camera, he added: “I have been annihilated. I have managed to checkmate myself, which, as far as I’m aware, has never been done.”

Instead of murdering another contestant, Jama and Acaster opted to seduce Fry, inviting the professor to become the show’s third traitor.

Fry accepted their offer following the roundtable discussion.

Meeting her fellow traitors for the first time, she exclaimed: “I was sure you were Faithfuls, you absolute legends.

“Oh, it’s going to be so fun!”
