Kakinada:Kakinada Poura Samkshema Sangham convener Dusarlapudi Ramana Raju staged a protest in front of the district collector’s office, demanding the merger of villages surrounding Kakinada into the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC).

Raju, who sat in a wheelchair with bandages tied around his body and held a placard, urged the government to resolve pending court issues and merge the villages with the corporation so that elections could be held without further delay.

He said the villages lacked basic civic amenities, including drinking water supply, sewage disposal, roads and drainage infrastructure. The protest was intended to highlight the problems faced by residents, he said.

Raju said elections had not been held in the villages for the past 15 years, resulting in the loss of crores of rupees in Finance Commission funds.
