We’re struggling in the player prop market currently.
As we move into Week 5 of the NFL season, we have a lot of work to do to get right into the positive swing.
We’ll leave all of that in the past as we begin Week 5 of the NFL season with plenty of intriguing games to target.
RECORD: 4-7 (-2.98 units) | Long shots: 1-8 (-2.85 units)
NFL Week player props, picks, best bets
Tyler Shough over 8.5 rushing yards (-114, FanDuel) | Over 19.5 (+300, theScore bet) | Over 24.5 rushing yards (+600, theScore Bet)
On average, the Vikings are allowing 17 rushing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks. Add in that Tyler Shough has cleared this number twice this season and faces a blitz-heavy team that Brian Flores brings, and I see Shough being willing to move more often than usual.
Shough also has been given some designed run plays, something that the Vikings haven’t really seen yet this year. Good buy spot on Shough’s legs.
The Saints quarterback averages four rushing attempts per game and 4.5 yards per carry, so that alone averages to 18 rushing yards this season.
In his final seven starts last season, Shough ran for 22, 18, 55, 32, 8, 6, and 34. Only going under this total twice in that span.
Given his history of willingly using his legs, Shough is the guy we are targeting this weekend in New Orleans.
Omarion Hampton over 10.5 rushing attempts (48.78 percent, Novig) | Over 15.5 rushing attempts (+575, Fanatics Sportsbook)
Mike McDaniel is going to get run out of town if he keeps up his nonsense in Los Angeles. Kimani Vidal was getting snaps for the Chargers last week, as was Keaton Mitchell, who appears to be banged up, but logically this offense has to run through their 220-pound hulking running back.
Hampton is top five in the league in yards after contact, and really the only issue is McDaniel wants to run a zone blocking scheme while Hampton is among the best in the league in running with man blocking schemes.
If McDaniel wants to keep his job, he will give Hampton the rock and help get a win for the Chargers instead of the nonsense plays he’s been calling.
Betting on the NFL?
DeMario Douglas over 2.5 receptions (51.92 percent, Novig) | Over 6.5 receptions (22/1, Hard Rock bet)
We’re taking the slot receiver for New England, as Mack Hollins is now out with an injury, according to coach Mike Vrabel. It’s possible that Rhamondre Stevenson doesn’t play either; all of a sudden, Drake Maye needs to find targets he can rely on to catch balls this weekend.
The Raiders are allowing 5.5 catches per game to opposing slot receivers this year (17th), and considering where New England stands injury-wise, this is a spot to target.
This is obviously a massive long shot at 22/1, but with the injuries factored in, I like the Douglas security blanket angle.
He’s cleared 2.5 just once this season, though he also was hardly expected to be a factor coming into the season.
Douglas has five catches already in a game this year, and Maye needs to throw the ball somewhere. Add in that Matthew Berry’s projections have him at 4.2 receptions for this game, and you’re looking at a good wager for this weekend.
