YOKOHAMA –
A 46-year-old Cuban national has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old foreign national at a restaurant in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, on October 11, fleeing the scene before turning himself in to police the following day.
The suspect, identified as Julian Oscar Tapia Aguilera, is accused of attempting to kill the man by stabbing him in the back and elsewhere at a restaurant in Chojamachi, Naka Ward, Yokohama.
Tapia fled the restaurant following the attack but surrendered to police on October 12 and was subsequently arrested.
During questioning, he reportedly admitted to the stabbing but partially denied the allegations, telling investigators, “I stabbed the man with a knife, but I did not intend to kill him.”
Police said both men had visited the restaurant as customers, but it remains unclear whether they knew each other before the incident.
Investigators are examining the circumstances leading up to the stabbing, including the relationship between the two men and what may have prompted the attack.
