Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte, who rose to fame as ‘Walter White Jr.’, died at age 34. His sudden passing came as a shock to his fans and loved ones. The cause of death has not been officially announced so far, but his rep stated that the actor died by suicide. The actor lived with cerebral palsy, and throughout his acting career, Mitte spoke up for disability representation in Hollywood.
RJ Mitte spoke about living with cerebral palsy
Mitte had cerebral palsy just like his Breaking Bad character ‘Walt Jr’. He drew inspiration from his own life with cerebral palsy to bring authenticity to the character. Mitte was an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.
In 2016, Mitte spoke about disabled persons getting more chances in Hollywood. Revealing how he used his own experience for his character, Mitte revealed:
“I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today without my disability. I utilized everything I know about living with cerebral palsy for my role in ‘Breaking Bad.’ It was my acting ability that landed me the role, although my disability helped get me the part of Walt Junior- like everyone else, I went through a grueling audition process.”

Mitte founded the Mitte Foundation, which supports various philanthropic efforts and people with disabilities. The actor was set to host the 2016 Paralympic Games and said the Paralympics gave him a special platform to raise awareness about this issue.
What led to RJ Mitte’s sudden death?
RJ rose to fame as the son of Bryan Cranston’s ‘Walter White’ on the Emmy-winning series. On October 12, 2026, TMZ reported that RJ Mitte had passed away. His reps later confirmed the sudden news. According to initial reports, RJ Mitte died by suicide in Brownsville, Texas. The Cameron County Justice of the Peace, Cyndi Hinojosa, revealed that an autopsy will be performed to further determine the manner of his death.
Not just this, it was reported that RJ Mitte apparently took his own life hours after his fiancée Kennedy Suarez’s birthday. The news of his death has left his fans heartbroken. In a statement, his rep said:
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte.”
Life was never a bed of roses for RJ Mitte, and he faced his own share of struggles. Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 3, a neurological condition that affects movement, muscle tone, and motor skills. To straighten his feet, the doctors put his legs in a cast for six months. He later wore leg braces and used crutches throughout most of his childhood.

RJ Mitte posted an IG story just hours before his sudden passing. On his IG handle, he reposted a post by indie filmmaker Patrick Rea promoting his upcoming film, One Eye Open. The film is set for release on October 16, 2026, and features RJ Mitte. The actor reportedly made his last public appearance 12 days ago to promote an upcoming project.
We wish RJ Mitte’s loved ones strength during this tough time.
