New Delhi:After the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), another satirical outfit, the Makhi Janta Party (MJP), has emerged on social media, drawing inspiration from Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s recent observation that authorities cannot use a hammer to kill a fly.

The MJP claimed on Tuesday that its Instagram account had attracted over 40 lakh views and 3.3 lakh followers in 72 hours. The page identifies a student, Aaryan, as its founder and has invited applications for spokespersons. According to its account details, the page was created in June 2021 and changed its username eight times before adopting its present identity.

The outfit’s name draws on the CJI’s remarks questioning the blanket shutdown of public transport in Delhi ahead of the CJP’s October 10 protest. While acknowledging security concerns, the Chief Justice had questioned the need to shut down the entire system.

“Jab CJI ne hi kaha — ‘Can’t use hammer to kill a fly!’ ab to makkhi bhi bolegi hum bhi kisi se kum nahi,” an MJP post said.

The MJP also expressed solidarity with All India Students’ Association (AISA) activist Neha Bora, who has been protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, while urging demonstrators to remain peaceful.

In a statement, MJP founding president Aaryan questioned the detention of CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das after they entered the barricaded Jantar Mantar area and waved the Tricolour on Tuesday.

“So what’s the point of a protest site if people can’t make their voices heard where it matters?” the statement asked, adding, “Democracy needs dialogue, not distance.”

The MJP said it was seeking to contact the CJP for possible coordinated action.

The CJP itself began as an online satirical response to a controversial remark describing a section of young people as “cockroaches”, before becoming associated with protests demanding political accountability.
