Actor Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan and known for films like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Delhi Belly, has been issued a Leave India Notice by Mumbai Police, directing him to exit the country by October 28.The action comes under the Immigration Act, following his participation in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10, where demonstrators gathered to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls.
Confirming the development, Mumbai Police stated, “A Leave India Notice (LIN) has been issued to actor Imran Khan, who is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan.” Khan holds US citizenship, a fact that came under scrutiny after BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya wrote to Mumbai’s Joint Commissioner of Police, Manoj Kumar Sharma, questioning whether Khan was legally permitted to take part in the demonstration and calling for his deportation.
Khan was detained on the day of the protest along with his partner, actor Lekha Washington, and his cousin Zayn Marie Khan. Addressing the media before his detention, Khan clarified his reasons for attending, saying he was there “as a Mumbai resident” and not representing any political party. Later that evening, he shared a photograph from inside a police van on Instagram, captioned simply, “Apparently, I am going for a ride.”

The October 10 demonstration was organised by author Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, in support of the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms, which has been pushing for Kumar’s resignation. As of now, Khan has not issued a public response to the Leave India Notice.
The development has sparked wider conversation online, with reactions split along expected lines, some questioning the use of immigration law against peaceful protest participation, others supporting the police action on citizenship grounds.
