Kaia Gerber has taken to Instagram with a heartbreaking tribute to her brother Presley, days after he was laid to rest at a small family funeral. Presley was 27 when he died at a rehab facility in California, with police investigating a suspected overdose.
Model Kaia, 25, posted a video of her and her brother dancing together as toddlers. In the video, Presley suddenly puts his arms around Kaia and hugs her tightly. The model followed the video with a message for her brother.
She wrote: “I don’t have the words and maybe the tiny mercy is that we didn’t need them all along. Words fail and words subtract and words summarise and words always lack truth. And how naive of me to believe that language could transcend grief.

“I’ve read all the books and I have none of the answers. My articulation is no match against this, the magnitude of losing you. I am quite literally down on my f***ing knees.”
She added that she loved being Presley’s sister and that it was her “favourite thing” about herself. In a truly heartbreaking moment, Kaia also said that her brother had often done things first so that she would feel less scared, such as getting his ears pierced so that she would know it wasn’t that painful. But when they gave her one of his earrings after his death, she said: “All I could think was: that belongs to you. And I really f***ing wish you hadn’t gone first this time.”
“To say loving you was the easiest thing in the world would imply that it required any effort at all,” she continued. “I was born loving you. I will die loving you, there was never anything else.”
She added: “My best buddy, my great protector, the hardest I’ve ever laughed and the one true love of my life – you lit all of my candles and took all of my monsters away. And I love you. And I love you. And I love you. Only you know how much. Thank you for being here.”
After her message, Kaia shared another picture of her and Presley as children, looking out to sea. She also shared a poem called The Gate, by Marie Howe. The poet wrote it in 1997, following the death of her younger brother John, who was just 28 at the time of his death.
Kaia and Presley’s mum, Cindy Crawford, has also posted a tribute to her son. She said, alongside a black and white picture of him: “He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever. We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner still lists Presley’s case as pending investigation. The Santa Monica Police Department have said there is no indication of any foul play.
