As the buzz surrounding it continues to grow, Alexis Lete sat down for an interview with Page Six, where she got candid about her showmance with Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio. She explained that things between them were a lot more “slow burn” than what was shown on TV. She said:
“The showmance happening in the second episode… I was like, ‘I don’t think that happened until episode four or five.’ So this is interesting to see it so early on, especially after I said this is bullshit. Everyone’s like, ‘Wait, how did this happen?’ It didn’t happen like that, y’all. It was a slow burn.”
Alexis clarified that she is not upset by the editing manipulation of the show. This is because she already knows that the producers “want people to get interested and invested” early in the season.
According to Alexis, her relationship with Johnny began in a funny and interesting way, especially considering she borrowed his clothes to dress up as “Oliver Clothesoff” for Tori Deal’s birthday. Alexis recalled:
“I used his clothes; a few days later, I left a note, and I was like, ‘Thank you for letting me use your douchey clothes.’ And then he wrote a little love letter back, and he was like, ‘Wait, does this mean you like me?’ And I just put ‘maybe.’”
Eventually Alexis ended up in the bathtub after Johnny asked her to put on a bikini and met him there. This is where she said that things between them were starting to get “a little spicier.” Alexis went on to confess that outside of watching Johnny on television, she barely knew anything about him.
Alexis likened her bond with Johnny to “a middle school crush relationship.” She also revealed that they did try to date after the show, even though Johnny told her while they were still filming that “he wasn’t in a space to have a relationship or have a girlfriend.” She added:
“So, I knew going out of the house that it wasn’t gonna lead to anything. And I think he tried to explore if it would, but ultimately, if someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time. So we’re just friends now.”
Alexis Lete reveals that Johnny Bananas was not her top choice for a showmance
In another interesting revelation, Alexis said that Johnny was actually not her first choice when it came to a showmance on The Challenge. She said that she was “not interested in Johnny at all.” Johnny was also reportedly aware of this, as he noted in his podcast how Alexis went for CT and thought that Josh was cute before she finally wanted him.
Alexis claimed that she did not picture herself being interested in him, mostly because she heard a lot of stuff about Johnny before going into it. This includes him being a “pot stirrer.” Alexis admitted that she didn’t know if she wanted to be a part of all the drama that he brought with him. However, in the end, she confessed that their relationship ended up being a “nice escape from the game.”
