Adilabad: A 25-year-old woman who was seven months pregnant with twins died at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Saturday morning, triggering a protest by her family members, who alleged negligence by the hospital staff.

The deceased, Sunitha, was a resident of Utnoor. She was admitted to RIMS on October 21 after falling ill. Her health deteriorated late on Friday night. Her family members alleged that the doctors did not respond despite being informed about her worsening condition. She died in the early hours of Saturday.

Following her death, the family members staged a protest outside the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), demanding strict action against the staff allegedly responsible for the incident.

RIMS director Dr Rathod JaiSingh said Sunitha had been admitted to the hospital at 32 weeks of pregnancy and died due to pulmonary embolism. He said the symptoms could not have been identified earlier.

He added that a three-member committee would be constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and that further action would be taken based on the committee’s report.
