Gavin and Stacey star, Joanna Page – who played the show’s titular character – has opened up about her marriage to James Thornton, with whom she shares four kids
Welsh actress Joanna Page has lifted the lid on her 23-year marriage to fellow actor, James Thornton.
The Gavin and Stacey star, 49, who played the BAFTA-winning show’s titular character, shares four kids with James, 50, with whom she presents a podcast called Lush.
Joanna has said she enjoys doing the podcast with her hubby because they are normally like “ships that pass in the night” while looking after their children. However, the Love Actually star got into a heated debate with James during their recent recording over an argument over childcare. “Do you want to talk about the argument that we had on holiday?” she asked her bemused-looking partner while complaining about the “lack of help” while she was packing up their brood for a day by the pool.

Opening up about her marriage, Joanna told the Mail that things can be “difficult”, revealing: “I think (the secret to marriage) is realising that married life and living with somebody else is difficult. You go through hard times, you don’t always get on with each other, you do end up annoying each other.”
However, despite admitting that they don’t go dates because they don’t have the time or are too tired, the actress said they still find time to talk and romance each other on their podcast, as she explained: “When we get into the studio and we’ll sit down and we’ll just talk and talk and talk and it would be like when we went out on our first date.
“My husband is fantastic and he runs a tight ship, a perfect routine.”
Joanna’s comments come after she and James had a bit of a barney on their recent podcast after their family holiday. The actress explained she was getting their kids’ bags ready for swimming while James was supposed to be brushing their teeth.
Recalling the tense time, she snapped: “After doing that (packing the bags), saying to you, ‘Can you just go and get her teeth cleaned?’ She starts crying. I’m like, ‘For goodness sake, have I got to do everything? Have I got to take over doing this now?’”
The actress continued: “And then you are just waiting as well, like a fifth child waiting for me to finish packing three bags before we can all go downstairs!”
It came a week after the couple butted heads over whether they should move abroad with their four children.
“I now want to move to Spain. I say it every year,” Joanna said, to which James mused: “Yes every time we go away.”
The mum-of-four continued: “Why can’t we just go ‘come on, let’s up sticks’. What’s holding you back? We’re all going to die one day. Let’s just all move to Mallorca. Don’t interrupt me, I know you’re about to interrupt me… let me finish my sentence!”
Not ruling put the possibility, James responded: “I think you like the idea of it all… I’d love to do it when we retire, we could do something like that.”
