On the latest episode of Karan Johar’s popular talk show, Koffee with Karan, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor participated as the key guests. This episode was a comedic relief to the intensity observed in the previous episode, ft. Rashmika Mandanna and her actor husband Vijay Deverakonda. The two of them have been gaining a lot of traction, but not in the sense they would have expected.
Coming back to the latest episode, both Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor engaged in the fan-favourite game, rapid-fire round, infamous for conjuring controversies over the years.
Before this special round started, Arjun Kapoor made a cameo as well, as he has done multiple times in the past. Varun Dhawan was all set for his round and took the rules of the game quite literally. Before Karan Johar could complete his question, Varun answered ‘Sidharth Malhotra’ when asked who he would like to star opposite in a heated rivalry reboot.
This would not be the first time we would see the two of them staring down each other’s fists. Turning back the clock to their debut movie, directed by none other than Karan Johar himself, Student of the Year (2012), Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra were breathing down each other’s necks over their shared love interest, Shanaya (Alia Bhatt). A heated rivalry was evidently visible in the sports-romance-drama
Since then, both have gone on to star in a diverse range of projects. Varun has an impressive catalogue of films under his belt, from a vengeful husband chasing after his wife’s killer in Badlapur (2015) to a grieving lover in October (2018). He has proven his ability to portray a wide array of characters. Sidharth is not far behind with some note-worthy performances in Ek Villain (2014), Shershaah (2021), and his recent release, The Vvaan (2026).
It would definitely be interesting to see the two of them once again face off against each other in a much darker, heated rivalry. During the interview, Varun Dhawan added extra weight to the claim as well, justifying why it should be done. He said, “I think there was tension even in SOTY (Student Of The Year)”
