Chennai: As Tamil Nadu marked its 70th formation day on Sunday, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar urged people and the Tamil diaspora to drive the state’s 9.4 per cent GDP contribution forward to help achieve the country’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.In a video released by the Lok Bhavan, Arlekar underscored Tamil Nadu’s stellar role in India’s developmental journey since state reorganisation.
He noted that the state’s unique blend of rich traditions, education, and robust industrial ecosystem serves as a classic example of holistic progress.
Highlighting economic achievements, the governor pointed out that Tamil Nadu currently accounts for approximately 9.4 per cent of the national GDP.
Furthermore, the state registered the second-largest GST collections in the country last year, reflecting its formidable economic strength, he added.
Spanning an area of 1.40 lakh square kilometres with a population exceeding 7.5 crores — nearly 25 per cent of whom comprise a vibrant youth demographic — the state continues to punch above its weight, he said.
Praising the collective efforts of everyone from grassroots to administrative leaders, cutting across political affiliations, for steering the state toward excellence, he also commended the global reach of Tamil heritage, noting that saints, poets, and literates have shaped human progress across generations.
Encouraging the diaspora, the governor remarked that Tamils settled across various parts of India act as cultural ambassadors, fostering industrial harmony and bolstering regional economies.
He reaffirmed that the state’s aspirations are deeply aligned with the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
