Saif Ali Khan has taken on a linguistic challenge for Ritesh Batra’s upcoming film. Currently being shot in Mumbai, the yet-untitled project requires the actor to speak French for nearly 40 percent of its runtime.
The actor reportedly went back to the basics, hiring a French coach and learning the language from scratch. A month of training later, he is said to have become comfortable conversing in French.
In the film, Saif plays an Indian man who is in a relationship with a French woman.
Saif is not the first Bollywood actor to learn a foreign language for a role. Hrithik Roshan learnt Spanish for Kites (2010), while Mohit Raina picked up French for Shiddat (2021). Annu Kapoor learnt French dialogues for Missing (2018), while Katrina Kaif and Varun Dhawan trained in Arabic for Phantom (2015) and Dishoom (2016), respectively. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reportedly learnt Arabic to dub her own lines for Jazbaa (2015).
